My 2006 resolution

( Drum roll)........learn Mandarin !!....(drum roll)......within a year!!!

Bah! This time i will keep my new year resolution. And this post will be prove of my determination. After a year, i will either look back at this post with thriump or err....failure?

I will at least learn to speak some basic mandarin.
You see, there is a reason for this sudden determination. Well, i was walking in the city center today when i was approached by this chinese guy.
He was asking for directions, he's from China. And he was looking at me like i was his saviour. Turns out that he does not know english at all. Tried cantonese, just as bad..he does not know it either.

So imagine the both of us with no way what so ever trying to communicate with each other. I don't know how we manage it with my limited mandarine vocabulary (10 words), but i figured out what he wanted.
Probally because there are some similarities between cantonese and mandarin. Anyway, it was darn frustrating! For both of us i guess. Must have looked quite funny...come to think of it, it was quite funny.

Can i do it? can i keep this resolution? me? err...don't think so, but will try. Wish me luck!
