Hello!! I am now in UK(Duh...). What to say. Today i went to the city to do some shopping. Have to take care of myself from now on. No one around to fuss over me and cook my meals for me any more. Discovered something. My cooking sucks! Attempted to cook chicken rice yesterday. Rice turned out to be too soft. Or maybe UK rice stinks(yup, i blame it on the rice..if only i could). However, we all know the truth.
Cost of living here is very high(after conversion). I can't help converting the pounds here back to our good old RM. That's like multiplying everything by 7. Wow! For example, a packet of maggi mee here costs 30p. Sounds cheap, yes? Well, after multiplying by 7, that's like RM2.10 for 1 packet!! *@# . I'm still not used to the currency here. I think when i go back to Malaysia everything will seem so cheap.
I think that i can forget Malaysian food for a year. Went to Chinatown for fun. There was this chicken rice shop. It smelled sooo.. good. The real thing. And the roasted chicken dangling right in front of my piggy face. Alas, could not afford it. The price? Let's say i can use the money to buy groceries for a week.
Cold! Freezing!! Die!!! It's extremely cold here, and it's not even winter yet. I'm wearing two layers of clothing everyday. And when i am out, i wear a jacket. And then i look around and see the pretty british gals wearing t-shirts and mini skirts. Get the picture? Why don't they feel cold? And i get shivers right to the bones when the icy cold wind blows.
Culture shock is not so shocking. Expect the expected, that's all. Football is very important here. And so is drinking and smoking. Ya, i don't really like the smoking part though. As i walk around the city, i see lots(plenty!) of young girls puffing away. Even grannys smoke.
The girls here are very pretty. Tall, blond, brunette. You see lots of different kinds of people. There's the Avil Lavinge type with loads of mascara. The punks, also with lots of mascara and jet black hair. The list goes on.
The in fashion now seems to be low cut jeans and short tops. I have seen a lot of bellies these few days.
Oh, they can't understand my Manglish! I'm so dissapointed. I have to purposely talk with a slang. It's weird hearing myself talk like that.
Classes only begins next week. However, induction and enrolment is this week. I will be taking MRes( masters in research). Where 50% of the course will be based on my project. As opposed to Msc, where project work only carries one third of the total course.
Well, i'm going back to my not so warm bed now...freezing..oh, i can't wait for winter.....
