The Da Vinci Code....finally

I think i finally understand what the fuss is over The Da Vinci Code. Every page is mind boggling and invites the reader to the next. Every chapter ends with a climax which renders the book hard to put down. The story line flows seamlessly and the plot reveals itself slowly which makes one think...'aah...that's why'. It is a page turner, one-hell of a ride book. However, i feel the factor which makes it a best seller is due no doubt to it's christianity theme. After all, nothing sells better than controversy. Something to bring publicity and to pique the public's curiosity enough to make them want to read the book. Well, i fell for it, didn't i?

The name Dan Brown rang no bell to me before. But seeing how well The Da Vinci Code was received with fantastic reviews, i just had to read it. And the publicity came because of the book's daring theme. Perhaps Dan Brown realised that, or perhaps it was not intentional. Either way, it cannot be denied that the publicity which came with the controversy boosted his book to the no. 1 spot and making it a best-seller.

The plot is shocking. Although everything the book mention is pure fiction, i take my hat off to Dan Brown for attempting to write so daringly. Who would be as brave, i wonder. According to the book, Jesus is not a god, he is a man, a father, a husband....a mortal! And the church has been hiding this from the world since eons. Imagine that! Even i find his ideas to be so bold. What would the Christians and the Church think. If Dan Brown had written this book in another century, for sure no pulisher would dare print it. Or they would be burned at the stake, condemed for eternity to fiery hell.

The controversy aside, The Da VinCi Code is a good read. Exhillarating and mind stimulating, curtesy of the codes our heroes have to break to find the Holy Grail. However, the reader must always bear in mind that the contents of the book it is purely fictional. Nothing more, nothing less.
